Making your own deodorant saves money, is healthier for your body, and actually stops body odor.
It’s important to note that this is not an antiperspirant deodorant. We need to sweat, it helps to remove toxins from our body and stopping this natural process only makes things worse.
The ingredients in this recipe will neutralise any odour and keep your body healthy at the same time. All ingredients are available in store or online for delivery.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsps unrefined coconut oil
- 2 tbsps unrefined shea butter
- 30g arrowroot powder
- 1.5 tbsps bicarbonate of soda
- 10 drops of essential oil (optional)
- 1 drop of tea tree essential oil (optional)
Recommended essential oils:
lavender
lemongrass
peppermint
The arrowroot powder is amazing at absorbing any sweat, while the shea butter will keep your skin very soft, protected and moisturised along with the mild anti-bacterial function of coconut oil.
Homemade deodorant will last up to 1 year in an airtight container. Keep cool in the summer.
How to do it:
- Place the coconut oil and shea butter into a glass bowl. Place the glass bowl into a saucepan.
- Add water to the saucepan so that it reaches about a third of the way up the side of the bowl.
- Bring the water to a boil and gently stir the mixture until it melts and is fully combined.
- Take the bowl out of the saucepan and add the arrowroot powder, bicarbonate of soda, and essential oils. Stir until evenly combined.
- Pour the mixture into your container and leave to cool in the fridge until set.
How to use it:
- Spoon out a pea-sized amount with a wooden scoop or with fingers and rub between fingers before applying directly to underarms.
- For a regular day, one application in the morning should be fine.
