This refillable starter kit combines everyday essentials that are useful for a wide range of household jobs. It is designed to help you reduce packaging without making your cleaning routine more complicated.

  • Clean & Green by Nancy Birtwhistle, or another book from her range if you already own it
  • 500g green bleach (aka natural bleach)
  • 500g bicarbonate of soda
  • 250g citric acid
  • 300ml white vinegar
  • 300ml eco washing up liquid
  • 300ml vegetable glycerine
  • 1 x 10ml essential oil of your choice
  • 1 empty 500ml amber glass spray bottle

The zero-waste kit format keeps everything neatly grouped in one place, making it easier to begin or maintain a lower-waste lifestyle. Each ingredient has a clear purpose, and the reusable bottle helps you mix solutions as needed without reaching for disposable plastic.

Tips for making the most of your starter set

A few small habits can make your Nancy Birtwhistle starter kit even easier to use day to day. Label your bottle, measure carefully, and store your refills somewhere cool and dry so everything stays organised and ready for the next top-up.

  • Begin with one or two recipes before trying more
  • Reuse the same bottle each time you make a fresh batch
  • Clean the sprayer and cap between refills for better results
