Description

Organic chickpeas are a versatile store-cupboard staple for quick, nourishing meals. Their mild flavour and satisfying texture work well in everything from soups and salads to curries, dips and baked dishes.

As dried chickpeas, they are easy to cook in batches and keep on hand for busy weeks. They are also naturally rich in plant-based protein and fibre, making them a reliable choice for vegetarian and vegan cooking.

If you prefer to buy in a more considered way, our chickpeas 400g refill is a simple, low-waste option. It is ideal for topping up your cupboard without overbuying, whether you normally shop for bulk chickpeas or pick up a smaller refill bag.

Simple meal ideas with chickpeas

These pantry pulses are easy to turn into everyday meals with just a few extra ingredients.

  • Houmous: blend with tahini, lemon, garlic and olive oil for a smooth dip.
  • Curries and stews: add body, texture and plant protein to comforting dishes.
  • Salads: mix with herbs, roasted vegetables and a sharp dressing for a filling lunch.
  • Tray bakes: roast with spices for a crisp topping or side dish.
  • Baking: use chickpea flour in savoury flatbreads and gluten-free recipes.

How to prepare dried chickpeas

Soak before cooking for a better finish

For the best texture, soak the chickpeas for 8 to 12 hours. Drain, rinse well and cover with fresh water before simmering until tender.

  • Stovetop: cook gently for around 3 hours
  • Pressure cooker: cook for about 40 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup of dried chickpeas makes roughly 2.5 cups cooked

If you are replacing tinned beans in a recipe, use about 100g of dried chickpeas for each 400g tin, based on drained weight.

Low-waste refill packaging

Our organic chickpeas are hand packed in a paper bag or a returnable organic cotton bag. The cotton bag has a £1 deposit, which is refunded when it comes back to us.

This makes them a practical choice for shoppers looking for everyday ingredients with less single-use packaging.
